The Role of Infection Prevention and Control

 

The service is supported by the Trust's Pathology Department with particular expertise from the Microbiology department.

  • Daily management of hospitalized patients with known or suspected communicable infections.

  • Working with clinical and non clinical staff on all aspects of infection control, including porters, domestics, catering and estates staff.

  • Education & training related to infection control.

  • Audit and surveillance.

  • Development of policies & guidelines.

  • Outbreak management.

  • Advice on decontamination of the environment and equipment.

  • Expert advice as required.

  • Visiting all wards to answer questions from staff, patients and the public

  • Director of Infection Prevention and Control (DIPC).

  • Infection Control Implementation Manager.

  • Consultant Microbiologists.

  • Infection Control Nursing service – Infection Control nurses, decontamination lead, High Impact Intervention Nurse, education lead.
