Visitor Information

Thousands of people pass through the hospital every week, either because they are visiting a relative or friend or because they are working here. There is a dedicated team of skilled infection control professionals who work here to help keep our hospitals safe and free from infection. It is vital that everyone who passes through our hospitals understands what they must do to keep patients, visitors and staff safe.

Things that you can do to help:

Wash your hands thoroughly after using the toilet

Whilst this may be common sense, it is sadly often ignored. Failure to clean your hands can lead to the spread of germs and consequently infection, which is harmful to patients and indeed everyone who passes through our doors. Step-by step guides on how to wash your hands properly are provided in each toilet, and the hand soap supplied is gentle on the skin but tough on germs, so please get scrubbing.

Use the pedal on pedal bins

A lot of people are always tempted to lift the lid of a bin when throwing something away, even if it has a pedal. Using the pedal instead of your hands makes the whole waste disposal process so much safer, and leads to better hygiene standards across all areas of the hospital.

Read the posters

Information posters are displayed around the hospital giving you helpful advice about how to keep the hospital safe and free from infection. When you have a spare minute or two, please read the posters, they will help you to stay safe.

Think carefully about whether or not you should visit the hospital

Sickness bugs and colds spread very easily, and whilst we understand your reasons for wanting to visit the hospital, we would ask that you think about whether it is absolutely necessary to come whilst you are ill.  Waiting a few days until you’re feeling well again helps us enormously in the prevention and control of infection, so your cooperation is much appreciated.

Why do all this?

Remember, it is your family/friends/work colleagues that we are looking after. They need you to listen to this sound advice as much as we do.

If we all work together we can achieve a clean, safe environment for everybody.
