"No avoidable death and no avoidable harm"
Patient safety is the number one priority at University Hospital. Our staff are committed to ensure patient safety is their top priority and will help you to feel confident that you are safe in their care.
Every day more than a million people are treated successfully in the NHS, but in complex healthcare systems there will always be incidences that put patients at risk, no matter how professional and dedicated the staff. Putting patient safety first helps the Trust to understand what risks can be avoided
Patient Safety First has been designed to change the culture within the NHS. The Trust is seeking to improve the safety of patients by changing practice in specific areas based on existing evidence, called interventions.
It is led by a team of clinicians and managers from across England, all experienced in and passionate about improving patient safety in their own field and is part of an international movement to make hospitals safer. The campaign is designed to create a strong leadership culture in patient safety from Boards to wards
Patient Safety First is not a target driven campaign. It is supported by the National Patient Safety Agency, the NHS Institute for Innovation & Improvement and the Health Foundation, but is delivered by the service you use. Our clinicians are constantly trying to change practice in specific areas based on existing evidence. Working together, they aim to eradicate avoidable harm while building on existing initiatives, evidence and best practice.
