Car Parking
The Future
University Hospital currently has 1,700 car parking spaces for patients, relatives and staff across its three sites. During the building work at the City General site some car parks will need to be removed to make way for new buildings, while new car parks will be built where old buildings have been demolished. The car parks at the Royal Infirmary and Central Outpatients should remain the same.
Once the new hospital is fully open in September 2012, work will begin to landscape the rest of the site. Once the landscaping is complete in 2014, University Hospital of North Staffordshire will have 2,000 car parking spaces.
The Present
Parking can be difficult at busy times, such as afternoon visiting times. Allow plenty of time to find a space and ask a parking attendant if you are having difficulties. Visitors who are able to avoid the afternoon and come instead in the evening will find it much easier to park. There are car parks dedicated to staff and patients or visitors on all three sites.

Car park map - from Monday 14 May 2012
This map shows the location, approximate number of spaces and user allocation of parking at University Hospital of North Staffordshire. The map is not drawn to scale but do accurately reflect the size, location, access and accessibility of the car parks available. The parking allocation on each site is subject to the changing nature of building a new hospital on top of an existing hospital site. Please check this map regularly for updates (The number of spaces available to staff, patients and visitors have remained the same. The numbers shown are a reflection of the size of car parks and should not be used as a definitive guide).

I'm attending/visiting a particular building, where should I park?
Each building is close to a particular site entrance and hospital car park. Please use the guidance below when choosing which site entrance to arrive and which area to park.
Maternity Centre - The Maternity Centre is located close to the A34/Newcastle Road. Use the North entrance of the A34 closest to Newcastle-under-Lyme town centre to access the site. The Trust recommends you use either the pay & display car park next to the West Building or the car park next to the A34 itself (to access this car park you must loop around the West Building).
Cancer Centre - The Cancer Centre is located on the A34. Use the North entrance of the A34 closest to Newcastle-under-Lyme town centre to access the site. The car park outside the Cancer Centre is for those using that particular building only. The car park next to the A34 (accessed behind the West Building) should be used as a Cancer Centre overspill car park. There is a short cut through to the Cancer centre to avoid the need to walk around the perimeter of the West Building.
Main Building - The Main Building is the name of the new hospital. It can be accessed from either the Hilton Road entrance or North entrance of the A34 closest to Newcastle-under-Lyme town centre. However, the Trust recommends that you use the Hilton Road entrance where possible as construction work is taking place in the centre of the site. There is blue badge parking available outside the Main Entrance. To access this, please take the second left after entering the site from the Hilton Road entrance.
All other patients and visitors to the Main Building should park on Levels 1 or 2 of the Multi-storey car park or the surfaced car parks (not gravel) adjacent to it. It is then a short walk to the Main Entrance of the Main Building.
Trent Building & Lyme Building - Patients and visitors attending the Trent & Lyme Building's should use the same car parks as those using the Main Building, there are link corridors connecting the buildings. However, those patients with blue badges can use disabled bays located outside each building entrance.
West Building - The west Building is located close to the A34/Newcastle Road. Use the North entrance of the A34 closest to Newcastle-under-Lyme town centre to access the site. The Trust recommends you use either the pay & display car park next to the West Building or the car park next to the A34 itself (to access this car park you must loop around the West Building).
Royal Infirmary site - Patients/visitors attending the Fracture Clinic or Renal Unit should use the pay and display car park located on Princes Road (next to the old A&E).
Central Out-patients Department site - Patients/visitors attending central outpatients before 14 May should park outside the Main Entrance to the building or on the upper car park. From 14 May 2012, patients and visitors should only park on the car park outside the Main Entrance of the old Central Outpatients Department.
