Visitor information
In circumstances where visits outside of normal visiting times are considered to be in the patients best interest, and not detrimental to the care of others, special permission may be granted by the Nurse in Charge and recorded in the patients care plan.
Adhere to the numbers of visitors allowed. This is 2 visitors at the bedside at any time, unless special permission is granted by the Nurse in Charge.
Visitors may be asked to leave the area when it is considered necessary to protect the privacy and dignity of patients.
Do not visit if you are unwell; you should be free of any symptoms for 48 hours before coming to the ward. This includes cough, colds, vomiting and diarrhoea.
Wash and dry your hands after visiting the toilet.
If your relative is found to have an infection whilst in hospital, please speak to the nurse in charge when you visit as there are likely to be a number of special precautions that you as a visitor have to take.
Do not sit on the bed or use the patients' toilets.
Do not share your relative's toiletries, tissues etc or items of hospital equipment with other patients, unless it has been approved by a member of the nursing team.
Visitors do not eat or drink your own food on the ward.
Ask the Nurse in Charge about bringing food and drink in for your relative.
Do not visit during protected mealtimes unless permission has been received from the Nurse in Charge.
With the exception of the Maternity Unit; in the interests of all patients, visiting by children under the age of 12 will be limited to circumstances where it is acknowledged that it would be in the interests of the specific patient and or the child, to have agreed limited visiting. All such requests should in the first instance be agreed by the Nurse in Charge.
Do not touch your relatives' or friends' wound or any devices such as drips or catheters.
Talk to the Ward Manager or ask to see the Matron if you have any concerns about the cleanliness of the environment, during office hours Monday to Friday.
