A pinch of Salt goes a long way

Local singer Eve Salt performed a charity gig recently to raise money for University Hospital's breast care department.  The event was held at Baddeley Green Working Men's Club on 18 April 2010.  Eve raised 1,130 pounds by performing a variety of popular musical hits by artists such as Alexandra Burke and Lady Gaga.

Eve is delighted she could help and is proud that together with her friends they could make a difference. She said: "My friend was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.  When someone close to you is affected by the disease it really brings it home, so I decided I would do my best to raise as much money as possible for the breast care team at the hospital.  They do such a wonderful job, but they can't do anything without money and I wanted to help out and make a difference."

Eve has always loved singing. She said: "I’ve never had a proper lesson in my life, but have performed in loads of pubs and clubs. Since meeting my new partner I have reduced my singing schedule because I want to spend more time at home, but I still really enjoy it. I have a friend who is a trained pianist and a friend’s daughter who is into dancing, so I managed to rope them into doing a couple of stints in between my singing. It was actually very funny, because I ended up having to join in the dance performance myself. We did a routine to Lady Gaga's 'Telephone'."

Steve Rushton, University Hospital's charitable funds manager, said: "We are always thrilled when people decide to donate.  Eve has done a brilliant job and has raised a lot of money in a short amount of time. The issues people raise money for are very serious but fundraising is more than just raising money. Fundraising needs to be fun for those taking part and I can tell Eve really enjoyed herself. If people can put a smile on the faces of others while fundraising, all the better."
