Check it out this Saturday

This Saturday, 11th September, University Hospital will be holding a Check It Out open day at the Central Outpatients Department in Hartshill between 10am and 4pm. The day will include Big Conversations to give people chance to have a say on our maternity, day case and younger people’s services.

The Check It Out Day will give people chance to check out new technology in the hospital and try it for themselves, check out the major incident command centre, check out how their hospital is doing, check out how the new hospital is coming along, check out careers in the NHS and get themselves checked out at the same time.

There's lots to see and do for all ages and the event has free refreshments and free parking. There's even a free creche so the little ones can be looked after by our children's nurses and play specialists while parents and older brothers and sisters Check It Out.

Andrea Green, Director, says, "Besides having fun with all the different activities on offer, we'll also be holding more of our flagship Big Conversations where people can have a say on how we should be providing our services. Last year our 10 Big Conversations, held in venues around North Staffordshire, were very successful in encouraging people to give opinions on a range of services and we have made a number of changes as a result of their comments.

"The Big Conversations were all held during working hours, though, so people at work and school didn't have the same opportunity. That’s why we decided to combine more Big Conversations with an open day on Saturday. We hope lots of people will take the chance to have a say on our maternity, day case and younger people's services. We currently do 80 per cent of our surgery as day cases, meaning that patients come in, have their procedure and go home again the same day. This is an ideal opportunity to find out how we do it and tell us what's important to patients.”

The Maternity Big Conversation will start at 10.30 and the Day Case Big Conversation will start at 1.30. With the move into the new hospital just 18 months away we want younger people to tell us what we need to do differently for them. Younger people can join in any of their special sessions that will run every hour on the hour from 11am.

There will be lots of friendly, knowledgeable staff to talk to and to help people try their hand at the various activities. Everyone is very welcome to Check it Out. For more information ring Elaine on 01782 555482.
