Temporary visiting restriction lifted

The temporary visiting restriction at University Hospital has been lifted with effect from 6th February 2010.  The temporary restriction was brought in as one of a number of measures to combat noro virus, the 'winter vomiting bug' that comes in to the hospital from the community where it is prevalent. Please click here to see normal visiting times.

Helen Jenkinson, Deputy Director of Infection Control, says, "I would like to thank visitors who co-operated and only came to see their relatives and friends during the single visiting hour over the past few weeks while we have been under severe pressure as a result of the virus. This is an enormous help to us in dealing with this bug, which is more contagious than the common cold.

"The herculean efforts put in by staff have finally cleared noro virus from the wards, however, it is still rife in the community and may yet be brought back into the hospital. If so, we may have to restrict visiting again, but we know how much the visits matter to our patients, their family and friends so we will always lift any temporary restriction as soon as we can."
