Who, when & where
Moving house is said to be one of the most stressful times in a person's life. But imagine having to try and move patients and services from three hospital sites into a brand new hospital. For University Hospital of North Staffordshire this will be a huge undertaking. However, the Trust has a dedicated team working out detailed plans and timetables of how this can be done safely and efficiently.
The move can't take place in one weekend or even over a few weeks. It's actually going to take just over a year to move everyone in. That is why we have split the move into five phases. Each phase moves a number of wards, services and departments. And because some services are interdependent, for example Accident & Emergency and Trauma, they have to move at similar times. Below is a description of what is moving and when.
Phase 1 took place in November, with ward 225 (elective orthopaedics) on Floor 2 and wards 230 (gastroenterology), 2321 (neurology) and 233 (respiratory) on Floor 3 opening. Parts of critical care and theatres opened on Lower Ground Floor 2, as well as the Prayer Centre.
Phase 2, March 2012: Emergency Centre, Imaging, Endoscopy, Paediatrics, Trauma, Neuro.
Phase 3/4, May 2012: Cardiac Department, Medical & Surgical Outpatients.
Phase 5, June 2012: Pharmacy, Orthopaedic and Fracture Clinic, Pre Assessment and Pathology.
We hope the move into the new hospital will be as smooth as it can be. Please bear with us if, during some of the moves, there are a few small teething problems.
Please find maps of each floor (note - only Lower Ground Floor 2, Floor 2 and Floor 3 are currently open, entry is via the Lyme Building (NSPD)).
