Breast surgery

"The national media are currently covering a story about PIP breast implants manufactured in France and a report on them has been commissioned by the government.  We would like to reassure patients of University Hospital that PIP implants are not used and have not been used here.  Our surgeons use NAGOR implants that are manufactured in the UK."


Our Breast Surgery service specialises in the treatment of both benign and malignant breast conditions. We provide surgery for patients coming through the North Staffordshire Breast Screening Service.  Each year we deal with over 400 new breast cancers and a wide range of benign disease.

This is all done through a Multi-Disciplinary Team approach. 

Our Breast Cancer Surgeons work closely with Specialist Plastic Surgeons.  A new Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon has recently been appointed.    

University Hospital's Breast Service is a pilot site for the NHS Technology Adoption Centre to set up a method of intra-operative tissue analysis called Sentinel Node. This will reduce the need for repeat surgery.
