End of life

'End of life' is the term used when clinicians and care staff from a variety of backgrounds come together to care for patients who are in the last chapter of their lives. When a patient is told they have a terminal illness, they have to start thinking about where they want to spend their last months, weeks, or days. This may involve deciding between staying in a hospice or their own home.

Palliative care is a particularly important part of end of life care. Palliative care helps to lessen or control the effects of terminal conditions. An example of this would be pain relief for those who need it.

At University Hospital we aim to provide a streamlined service to give the patient and their family the least distressing experience possible. We believe quality of care should be consistent, from beginning to end.
