Delivery Suite

The Delivery Suite provides specialist care for women with more complex labour and delivery needs. All women will be cared for by a midwife. A midwife is specially trained to care for mothers and babies throughout pregnancy, labour and following the birth.

A consultant obstetrician is available, supported by a team of specialist registrars, registrars and junior doctors 24 hours a day.

We have a dedicated anaesthetic service that enables us to offer a 24 hour epidural service and caesarean sections.

The delivery suite is next to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit which enables us to treat babies who are unwell.

The delivery suite has 16 delivery rooms which include three high dependency rooms for women who require more intensive care and a room for women with disabilities. All of the delivery rooms have en-suite bathrooms with hydrotherapy spa baths for pain relief.

There are also two fully equipped, ultra modern theatres and two bereavement rooms which are used for women who have experienced loss at some stage in their pregnancy. These rooms are separate from the main part of the delivery suite and allow women to spend private time in a quiet and comfortable environment when needed.

Mum may have up to two birthing partners with her during delivery, but they must be identified on the birth plan.

Visiting information

Visiting is not allowed on the delivery suite, except for when a lady is staying in a high dependency room for a number of days.  Family are allowed to visit if a lady has a stillbirth.
