People & Profiles

Consultant Clinical Neurophysiologists (Medical Doctors)

Our Consultant Clinical Neurophysiologists (Medical Doctors) have extensive experience in Neurophysiology investigations, particularly in performing tests for nerve and muscle disease, monitoring during spinal or brain surgery and the interpretation and reporting of investigations undertaken.   Both have membership of the Royal College of Physicians.

Scientific Staff

Our team of neurophysiological scientists undertake the majority of investigations and provide reports, with further reporting as required from the doctors. Neurophysiological scientists must attain a four year BSc (Hons) in Neurophysiology to qualify. All the qualified staff are on a national voluntary register to practice and this will be made mandatory by the Department of Health in two years’ time.

Technical and Clerical Support Staff

The department is supported by technical and clerical support staff.

Innovation and Service Improvement

The Neurophysiology department has worked closely with the Department of Health to drive down waiting times whilst still maintaining high quality services and safe practice. We have had national recognition for this service and we are used as a benchmark for others and as an example of clinical excellence.

Our senior consultant is the president of the British Society of Clinical Neurophysiologists.

The department is a recognised training centre for medical and scientific staff and works closely with Keele, Stafford and Manchester Universities.
