OPAT

The Outpatient Parenteral Antibiotic Therapy (OPAT) service is provided in partnership with community services to enable patients who are fit to be outpatients - and who meet a criteria set by the OPAT service -  to receive intravenous antibiotics in a setting of their choice, for example, their own home.

The OPAT team are part of the infectious diseases unit.  They can be contacted on pager number 15111 between 9-5pm, Monday to Sunday.

Patients meeting the criteria will be assessed by OPAT specialist nurses.  Their first antibiotic dose will be administered within the hospital setting before they are referred to the community teams.

Patients will be closely followed up by either the infectious diseases team, or relevant specialities.
