Surgical appliances
University Hospital's surgical appliances office provides aids for patients following surgery. These include devices such as breast prosthesis following mastectomy and surgical stockings for deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or lymphodema. Wigs are no longer procured through the surgical appliances office. Click here for information on wigs.
General Information
Prostheses replacements - Existing patients are entitled to a replacement prosthesis every two years. If you need a replacement prosthesis, please make an appointmentwith the Trust's surgical appliance officer.
Breast prostheses
We hold a large stock of breast prostheses, including a variety of shapes, sizes and weights. These are available from the Trust's surgical appliances officer. On your first appointment the surgical appliance officer will help you choose the right prosthesis for you. If you have a darker skin tone and would like to try a prosthesis which matches your skin tone directly, these are available through special order.
The surgical appliance officer can also give you advice on what bras will best suit your needs, and can direct you to providers of specialist clothing such as swimwear and lingerie.
Opening times and contact information
The surgical appliance office is located in the central outpatients department on Hartshill Road, Stoke on Trent. It is in Corridor 3, off Corridor A.
The office is open from 8.30am to 4.30pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
