Young Apprenticeships
The Young Apprenticeships Program is currently being delivered at the Healthcare Careers & Skills Academy, as a curriculum option for Y9/10 pupils.
What does it involve?
During the two year course students can achieve a BTEC National Level 2 award in Health & Social Care and graduate as Young Apprentices after the successful completion of a minimum of 50 days' work experience across Early Years, Health Care & Social Care sectors.
This can potentially offer distinct advantages to students, who gain an academic qualification in addition to the valuable practical experience that is so often sought after by recruiters.
Young Apprenticeships, through a series of enrichment sessions built into the program, offers additional accreditation/qualifications to enhance attainment, providing a high quality, holistic foundation for young people looking towards a future career in Health & Social Care.
Successes

2011 saw one of the Academy's students on the YA Program scooped the prestigious National Young Apprentice of the Year title in an awards ceremony that took place in London; she has since been invited to Buckingham Palace in recognition of the award and has generated local interest from MPs and the local media, having also been nominated for a Sentinel Bright Stars award.
